100 years of RSS - RSS leaders went to jail for Independence, PM

By - Amit kumar Agarwal

  • PM Modi releases the special coin and stamp at the RSS centenary event in Delhi.
  • PM Modi released a commemorative coin and stamp to mark 100 years of RSS.
  • This is the first time in the history of India that Bharat Mata's image has been carved onto a coin, PM said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that RSS (Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh) had immensely suffered at the hands of British and Nizams for its belief of nation first. He also said RSS members, including founder K.B. Hedgewar, had been jailed during the freedom struggle.

Speaking at the RSS centenary celebrations, PM Modi said, “Tomorrow is Vijayadashmi, a festival which symbolises the victory of good over evil, victory of justice over injustice, victory of truth over falsehoods, and victory of light over darkness; the establishment of RSS on Dussehra 100 years ago was not just a coincidence. This was resurrection of a tradition which was continuing since thousands of years. We are lucky to be witnessing centenary of the Sangh.”

Modi released a special commemorative postage stamp and a coin to mark the centenary of the RSS. The specially designed coin and stamp highlight the contribution of the RSS to the nation, he said.

PM Modi, full of emotions, said, "this is the first time in the history of India that Bharat Mata’s image has been carved onto a coin.”

The coin also has the RSS' moto - Rashtray Swaha, Idam Rashtraya, Idam Na Mama - which translates to - everything is dedicated to the nation; everyhting is the nation’s, nothing is mine.

Key points and takeaways from the PM's speech:
  • Hedgewar was jailed for participating in the freedom struggle
  • Since its inception, the RSS has been striving to build the nation
  • During the Chimur (Maharashtra) agitation of 1942, RSS swayamsevaks suffered at the hands of the British. Again after Independence, RSS suffered at the hands of the Nizams of Hyderabad. RSS also sacrificed during the Independence of Goa and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. But RSS was steady on its belief: ‘Nation first’ and aim of ‘Ek Bharat, sreshth Bharat’.

Loser Farhan, Garibzada Farhan

By - Amit kumaR Agarwal

Pakistan opener Farhan’s, AK-47 celebration - or rather lack of it - on hitting 50 against India in the September 21st 'super 4' match sparked widespread criticism on the internet - with many rightly dubbing the player 'loser farhan' and 'garibzada farhan'.

Calling the player grossly shameful and bearing a terrorist-mindset, many shunned the player, calling for strict action by the ICC.

It may be reported that Farhan’s gun-firing celebration of his 50, was grossly against the spirit of humanity; it sparked widespread outrage globally, especially after pakistan-sponsored Pahalgam terror attack.

The fact that India clobbered and hammered, a clueless Pakistan squarely led to a meme-fest with many netizens calling him 'loser Farhan'. While, many netizens said, you lose both 'the war' and 'the game' - what is the celebration about, loser!

Many others commented pakistanis will do Pakistan a great favor by telling their government to shun away from terrorism and instead focus on the development of Pakistan.

Not Just A Review l The Ba***ds of Bollywood

By - Amit kumaR Agarwal

Cry nepotism or whatever you want; the fact that Aryan Khan gets a debut which many film-school pass-outs dream of, is a reality with 'The Ba***ds of Bollywood' - a show centered around the film-industry.

There have been many films set in the film-industry both in the Indian Film Industry and Hollywood - from Guru Dutt's Kaagaz Ke Phool to multi Academy Award winning The Artist.

For audience at large, the films or webseries set in the film-industry that made a mark in India in past-two decades are the webseries, Jubilee and probably, the truest account of the film-industry, with a brilliant act by Rishi Kapoor, Luck By Chance.

The Ba***ds of Bollywood had it all but the webseries falls flat because of a flawed premise.

A superstar (Bobby Deol) wants his 'bastard' son (Lakshya) - hence the title, The Bastards of Bollywood out of the debut film of his daughter (Sehher) because he doesn't want a brother to romance his sister, err.. step-sister. Perfect!

BUT - where are the emotions required for such a story, told in a long-format, read webseries.

The first question is - do the audiences feel for the protagonists.
NO - and that is the biggest undoing of this Aryan Khan directorial.

Unless, you get emotions right you can't connect with the audiences - all the top directors in the world get one thing right, emotions and that is precisely what is missing in this webseries.

Also, after the 3rd episode, the episodes that follow go, on and on - did we have an editor on the show?

So you have the entire film-industry in the webseries a la pops, Om Shanti Om - just that it works in bits and pieces. The best cameos are Ranbir Kapoor and S.S. Rajamouli-Aamir Khan's.

The best act in the webseries comes from Divik Sharma playing Shaumik Talvar. His portrayal of a Gen Z spoilt brat of rich parents is so effortless and flawless that you can't help ignore parallels in real life.

Of course, Season 2 of the webseries will follow and you can again cry hoarse from rooftops - nepotism. But then does anyone care, anymore.
