  • President of India reviews the passing out parade of 158th Regular Course and 141st Technical Graduate Course at the Indian Military Academy
The President of India Smt Droupadi Murmu reviewed the passing out parade of the 158th Regular Course and the 141st Technical Graduate Course at the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun today (June 13, 2026).

Speaking on the occasion, the President congratulated the officer cadets on the successful completion of one of the most rigorous training programs in the country. She said that their courage and wisdom will be their strengths. She was delighted to see nine women cadets. She said that this is a watershed moment in the history of IMA. It is not only a milestone in the history of India’s defence forces but also an inspiring example of India’s march towards women-led development. She expressed confidence that many more women cadets would join the Academy.

The President also congratulated the cadets from the friendly foreign countries. She expressed confidence that they will bring many laurels to their Armed Forces and countries through their service and the values they have imbibed at IMA.

The President said that the presence of foreign cadets at IMA reflects India's commitment to fostering friendship, cooperation and peaceful relations with countries across the world. Cadets at this institution develop mutual trust, understanding and professional bonds that play an important role in strengthening defence cooperation among nations.

The President told officer cadets that they are the protectors of our nation's sovereignty, unity and integrity. They carry the sacred trust of over 140 crore citizens. She advised them to remember that service is the highest duty. She stated that in an era of rapidly changing security challenges, technological advances and complex global environments, the Indian Army must remain adaptive and future-ready. She urged young officers to be lifelong learners, courageous decision-makers and ethical leaders.

The President said that as Army officers, the officer cadets will be responsible for leading, guiding and caring for the soldiers. They have to lead by example, inspire confidence, and encourage the spirit of teamwork and dedication. By balancing operational effectiveness with the well-being of their soldiers, they will build trust and strengthen the fighting capability of the units they will lead. She said that they are expected to lead from the front, care for their soldiers and uphold the finest traditions of our Armed Forces.

Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan met Assam Chief Minister Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma at Krishi Bhawan in New Delhi today to discuss subjects related to the State. In this high level meeting, the progress of various central schemes run by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in Assam was reviewed and wide-ranging discussions were held on several important issues.

In the meeting, Union Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, there will be no shortage of funds and resources for agriculture and rural development in Assam. He assured full support to the State in ensuring maximum benefits of Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Gramin (PMAY-G), MGNREGA and other Central schemes.

Speaking on the agenda of the Ministry of Rural Development, Secretary Shri Rohit Kansal informed that the technical bottlenecks in the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) and MNREGA systems have been completely resolved. Funds have been allocated under MNREGA as per the Assam government's demand. He also informed that the Vikas Bharat-Rozgar Evam Aajeevika Mission (Rural) will replace MNREGA across the country from July 1st.

The meeting lauded the Assam government's historic move to grant land ownership rights (Patta) to tea garden workers. The Union Minister announced that the central government will open a special survey window to digitally record the names of eligible beneficiaries so that  these workers receive the benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin.

On this occasion, Union Minister Shri Chouhan handed over the draft of Agriculture Action Plan, prepared on the basis of the specific climatic and soil characteristics of Assam, to Chief Minister Shri Sarma. Several important decisions related to agriculture and rural development were agreed upon during the meeting.

Rural Development Ministry officials informed that Assam has achieved a remarkable progress towards women empowerment by creating over 9 lakh 'Lakhpati Didis', exceeding the target. Work will be accelerated in collaboration with incubators at Assam Agricultural University (AAU) to further strengthen these women's enterprises.

To strengthen the agriculture sector, the Central Government informed about the projects and funds approved in Assam under the Agricultural Mechanization and Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY). Shri Atish Chandra, Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, apprised the Chief Minister of efforts being made to provide agricultural power weeders to women farmers. The expansion of the National Mission on Edible Oils – Oil Palm (NMEO-OP) was also discussed.

To promote safe farming in the state, 1,500 new bamboo polyhouses have been approved this year. To strengthen agricultural infrastructure, buildings for a Pesticide Testing Lab and an Edible Oil Testing Lab have been approved under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY). Partnerships are being established with APEDA and the National Organic Cooperative Limited to promote international marketing and export of Assam's organic products, providing extensive handholding support to farmers.

Elaborate discussions on promotion of rich bio-diversity of Assam were also held in the meeting. Dr. M.L. Jat, Secretary DARE and Director General, ICAR informed that the existing centres of Assam Agricultural University will be further strengthened. Under this, All India Coordinated Research Programme for Spices and Network Programme for Development of State Flower 'Foxtail Orchid "will be conducted in collaboration with Institute of Floriculture, Pune. Resolution of pending cases related to retirement benefits and pension of employees of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) was also discussed.

Shri Narendra Bhushan, Secretary, Department of Land Resources, informed that positive progress is being made towards digitization of land records in Assam.

Chief Minister Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed gratitude to Union Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan for the support being provided by the Central Government for giving impetus to agriculture and rural development in the State.

  • Deputy President of South Africa H.E. Mr Shipokosa Paulus Mashatile Meets Vice President Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan; Reaffirms Commitment to Deepening Bilateral relations
Deputy President of South Africa, H.E. Mr Shipokosa Paulus Mashatile, met the Vice President of India, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan, at Uprashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi today, during his official visit to India. He was accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising senior Ministers and officials of the Government of South Africa.

The two leaders held productive discussions on further strengthening the India–South Africa bilateral relations, with a focus on trade, investment, defence cooperation, skills development, and enhancing people-to-people ties.

They also exchanged views on advancing the priorities of the Global South and enhancing cooperation in multilateral forums such as BRICS, G20, IBSA and IORA.

The leaders discussed ways to unlock the full potential of bilateral economic ties and emphasized the need to create a conducive environment for businesses and investors. In this context, the Vice President highlighted the proposed India–Southern African Customs Union (SACU) Preferential Trade Agreement and expressed hope for the early commencement and successful conclusion of negotiations.

Both sides welcomed the growing defence cooperation between the two countries and looked forward to expanding collaboration, including through future editions of the IBSAMAR naval exercise involving India, Brazil and South Africa.

The Vice President thanked South Africa for supporting India’s cheetah reintroduction programme through the transfer of cheetahs. Noting the encouraging progress of Project Cheetah, including successful breeding in the wild, he sought South Africa’s continued cooperation in this unique conservation initiative.

The Vice President also invited South Africa to consider joining India’s flagship multilateral initiatives,the International Solar Alliance (ISA), the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), and the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA), noting their alignment with shared development and sustainability objectives.

The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of India and South Africa to further strengthening their bilateral relations and working together for peace, prosperity, sustainable development, and the interests of the Global South.

The Vice President wished Deputy President Mashatile and the members of his delegation a productive and pleasant stay in India.

Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, and Minister of State for Education, Government of India, Shri Jayant Chaudhary sent off the Indian contingent participating in the international vocational and technical skills competition, 2026 Taipei Capital Cup WorldSkills Invitational Tournament, being held in Taipei, Taiwan, from 26–28 May 2026.

The five-member Indian contingent, the future global champions, will compete with participants from around 15 countries in the tournament organised as a warm-up event ahead of WorldSkills Shanghai 2026. The competition promotes global skills development, technical excellence, international collaboration, and workforce innovation while helping participants gain real-world competitive experience at an international level.

The occasion was attended by Smt. Debashree Mukherjee, Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), and Shri Arunkumar Pillai, Chief Executive Officer, National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), along with senior officials from the Ministry and NSDC.

Addressing the participants, Shri Jayant Chaudhary encouraged the competitors to represent India with confidence, discipline, and excellence, while making the most of the opportunity to learn from global best practices and international competition standards. He highlighted the importance of skill competitions and said that such competitions not only sharpen technical capabilities but also strengthen India’s skilling ecosystem and prepare the country’s youth for emerging global opportunities.

India will compete in five skill categories at the 2026 Taipei Capital Cup WorldSkills Competition, with Arjun Sumathi Vijayabashkar representing the country in Mobile Applications Development, Mohamed Mafaz Poonaikannan Rabi Ahamed in Software Applications Development, Muskan in Painting & Decorating, Md Seraj in Automobile Technology, and Suresh Kumar Ganesan Meena in Digital Construction. The contingent comprises gold medal winners from the IndiaSkills National Competition 2025–26, along with candidates selected through the wildcard entry process.

This year’s edition of the competition features 10 skill categories spanning critical sectors linked to smart manufacturing and digital transformation, including Industrial Mechanics, IT Network Systems Administration, Mobile Applications Development, Industry 4.0, Automobile Technology, and Digital Construction (BIM).

India’s participation in the tournament marks an important step in the country’s preparation journey towards the 48th WorldSkills Shanghai 2026. The competition will provide Team India with early exposure to international standards and act as a crucial warm-up platform ahead of the global competition, enabling competitors to sharpen their technical skills and adapt to international standards of excellence.

  • GRADUATION CEREMONY OF 48TH FLIGHT TEST COURSE
Eleven Test Pilots and Six Flight Test Engineers of the 48th Flight Test Course graduated from the Air Force Test Pilots School (AFTPS) in Bengaluru on 23 May 26 post completion of a rigorous 48 weeks multi-discipline training curriculum. This year, the graduating course, comprised of a cohort of 17 officers including 14 officers from Indian Air Force, one officer from Indian Army and two officers from Indian Navy. From here on, the graduates will join the Aviation Wing of the Aircraft and Systems Testing Establishment, which is one of the premier units of the Indian Air Force.

Air Chief Marshal AP Singh PVSM AVSM, Chief of the Air Staff and a distinguished alumnus of the 17th Flight Test Course, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He presented certificates to all graduating officers and awarded trophies to the meritorious performers. This year, the prestigious "Suranjan Das Trophy" for the best all-round student Test Pilot was awarded to Sqn Ldr KK Singh, VM, while the "Chief of the Air Staff Trophy" for the best student Test Pilot in flight evaluation was awarded to Sqn Ldr Aditya Jamdagni. The "Maharaja Hanumanth Singh Sword" for the best all round student Flight Test Engineer was awarded to ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­Wg Cdr Abhinav Kumar. Wg Cdr Pranav Sharma was awarded the "Dunlop Trophy" for best student Flight Test Engineer in flight evaluation and the" Kapil Bhargava Trophy" for the best student in ground subjects was awarded to Sqn Ldr Paras Sharma.

While addressing the house on the occasion, the Chief Guest exhorted the graduating officers to continue toiling hard with focus, and reminded them of the crucial role that they would go on to play towards capability building and modernisation of the Indian Armed Forces. 

Emphasising 'Atmanirbharta' as a strategic necessity for developing resilient indigenous defence capabilities, the CAS highlighted the onerous responsibility that the test crew needs to shoulder to proliferate the nation's indigenisation drive and strengthen the aerospace ecosystem. He emphasized the need to optimize design to delivery' time cycles while upholding highest standards of safety and quality of equipment. He further stressed the importance of professional competence to ensure that aircraft and systems meet the operational requirements of the services, while urging the officers to uphold the virtues of honesty, integrity, precision and excellence.

Minister of State for Youth Affairs & Sports, Raksha Khadse today visited the Khelo India State Centre of Excellence (KISCE) Assam and the High Performance Centre in Guwahati, where she interacted with athletes, coaches, sports science experts, and officials while reviewing the growing high-performance sports ecosystem in the Northeast.

During the visit, Raksha Khadse toured various training and rehabilitation facilities at the High Performance Centre, including sports science laboratories, recovery and rehabilitation units, physiological and biomechanical assessment facilities, and athlete support systems. The visit highlighted the increasing integration of sports science, technology, and data-driven athlete development in India’s sporting ecosystem.

The Minister was accompanied during the visit by Kausar Jamil Hilaly, Special Secretary, Department of Sports and Youth Welfare; Ankur Bharali, Director, Department of Sports and Youth Welfare; D.K. The High Performance Centre has emerged as an important sports science and rehabilitation facility in the region, equipped with modern systems for injury management, recovery, physiological testing, motion analysis, and performance enhancement.

Raksha Khadse also reviewed ongoing athlete development programmes under the Khelo India ecosystem and discussed the importance of strengthening pathways for young athletes from the Northeast to compete at national and international levels.

The visit reflected the Government’s broader vision of building a scientifically driven, athlete-centric, and globally competitive sporting ecosystem as India moves towards its long-term sporting ambitions, including the Commonwealth Games 2030 and beyond.

  • NMDC Launches Summer Camp for 1700 Children in Dakshin Bastar
In a unique grassroots initiative designed to nurture children from the tribal communities, NMDC has launched Summer Camps across 17 villages in Dantewada district from 20 May to 15 June 2026.

This initiative is expected to engage around 1700 children during their summer vacations in experiential learning, creativity and sports. While activities have commenced in most villages, mobilisation efforts to enhance batch strength are underway. At present, daily attendance at the NMDC Summer Camp ranges from 30 to 40 children in each village.

These children spend three to four enriching hours engaged in reading, craftwork, and music workshops, followed by spirited games of frisbee, kabaddi, and kho-kho, and conclude the day by sharing healthy refreshments.

Executed in partnership with WOSCA, an organisation working in the field of education and community development, the Summer Camps are creating a safe and encouraging environment for the next generation in Bastar to thrive.

In rural communities where access to structured creative learning opportunities remains limited, NMDC’s intervention is bridging this gap by investing in the potential and aspirations at the grassroots level. As part of its broader commitment to village development, the initiative nurtures social and lateral skills among children from underserved communities, helping them grow into confident, self-assured youth.

Community participation is steadily growing in the villages where the Summer Camps have been launched, with keen response from children, parents and local stakeholders. As the initiative expands in the coming weeks, NMDC encourages families and community members to take an active part in making this a vibrant summer for Dantewada.

African American Women in Cinema Announces
“The Politics of Black Women in Film” Panel and Educational Mini-Tour at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival.”

High-profile discussion and VIP reception at Pavillon AfroNova to center the voices, artistry, and leadership of Black women in global cinema.

CANNES, FRANCE — African American Women in Cinema (AAWIC) proudly announces its signature keynote panel, “The Politics of Black Women in Film,” taking place during the 2026 Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at Pavillon AfroNova in Cannes, France.

This timely and dynamic conversation will explore the intersections of culture, authorship, representation, and power in the global film industry while centering the voices and leadership of Black women shaping contemporary cinema and media.

The event marks the official launch of AAWIC’s educational mini-tour, which will continue with upcoming engagements in New York, Nashville, and Washington, D.C. The initiative is designed to elevate dialogue, expand visibility, and foster collaboration among filmmakers, executives, creatives, scholars, and cultural leaders worldwide.

Moderated by Emmy-nominated editor Princess A. Hairston, whose acclaimed work spans PBS, Netflix, Sundance, and major political and cultural campaigns, the panel will feature distinguished industry leaders including:
• Lamonia Brown — Entertainment executive and film festival strategist recognized for shaping major cultural film platforms and developing content ecosystems across television, festivals, and studio initiatives.
• Dr. A’Cire Newby — Award-winning filmmaker, media personality, and advocate whose multifaceted career spans radio, film production, television, and activism focused on women’s empowerment.

The Pavilion of India was opened to the public today at the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia in the presence of Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union Minister of Culture and Tourism; Mr. Pietrangelo Buttafuoco, President of La Biennale di Venezia; Shri Vivek Aggarwal, Secretary, Ministry of Culture; H.E. Vani Rao, Ambassador of India to Italy.

Smt. Nita M. Ambani; Smt. Isha Ambani; and Shri Sunil Kant Munjal were also present on the occasion.

The opening featured remarks by Dr. Amin Jaffer, H.E. Vani Rao, Shri Vivek Aggarwal, and Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.

A performance programme curated by Serendipity Arts will accompany the exhibition across Venice from May to November 2026, featuring interdisciplinary presentations inspired by Indian cultural traditions and the Biennale theme In Minor Keys.

Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya attended the special screening of the documentary 'Bicharpur – Junoon Football Ka', a film capturing inspiring stories from grassroots football and the transformative role of sports in society.

Addressing the gathering after the screening, the Minister underlined how sports can shape young minds and provide meaningful direction to youth. He said that sports is not merely a competition, but a way of life that strengthens culture, discipline, mental ability and collective spirit.

“Twenty-five years ago, many youngsters were moving in the wrong direction, but when they became connected with sports, their lives changed. Sports gives direction to young leaders and channels their energy positively,” Dr. Mandaviya said.

Highlighting the larger social impact of community participation in sports, the Minister referred to the example of the Kodava community of Coorg and their deep-rooted hockey culture. He said such community-driven sporting movements help build unity, discipline, collective responsibility and national pride.

“Sports develops a sense of togetherness and contribution towards the nation. While individuals pursue sports for themselves, they also bring glory to the country,” he added.

Speaking about the importance of storytelling and preserving such journeys, Dr. Mandaviya stressed the need for documentation of grassroots sporting stories. “When any effort gets documented, it becomes inspirational. Such stories can guide and motivate youth and entire communities,” he said.

The Minister also emphasised the importance of recognition and encouragement in sports. He noted that platforms which honour talent help build self-confidence among youth and ultimately contribute towards national pride.

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi today saluted the courage, precision and resolve of the armed forces on the completion of one year of Operation Sindoor.

The Prime Minister said that the armed forces had given a fitting response to those who dared to attack innocent Indians at Pahalgam.

Shri Modi said that Operation Sindoor reflected India’s firm response against terrorism and its unwavering commitment to safeguarding national security.

The Prime Minister noted that the operation highlighted the professionalism, preparedness and coordinated strength of the armed forces. He further said that it showcased the growing jointness among the forces and underlined the strength that India’s quest for self-reliance in the defence sector has brought to national security.

Shri Modi reiterated that India remains steadfast in its resolve to defeat terrorism and destroy its enabling ecosystem.

Shri Modi said that during Operation Sindoor, the armed forces showcased their valour and gave a firm response to those who attacked the people of India. He said that every Indian is proud of the armed forces.

The surprise world premiere screening of Michel Leclerc’s new film Les Caprices de L’Enfant Roi (Molière, Cyrano and the Young King), starring Artus, Doria Tillier, Julia Piaton and Franck Dubosc, will light up the Cinéma de la Plage 2026.

In total, 11 films including Top Gun for its 40th anniversary, screenings of the two Palme d’Or winners from 1966 (guess which ones?), the return of Ken Loach, a tribute to Carlos Saura, and Viva Maria! by Louis Malle, as part of a tribute to Brigitte Bardot organized by the City of Cannes on Place Macé, which will become Plage Brigitte Bardot.

Every evening at 9:30 PM, the Cannes Film Festival reinvents itself after dark, transforming Macé Beach on the Croisette, opposite the Majestic Hotel, into an open-air cinema. As part of the Official Selection, just steps from the Palais des Festivals, it offers another way – open to everyone – to take part in the grand celebration of cinema! New 4K restoration carried out for the film’s 60th anniversary by Éclair Classics laboratory, based on 4K scans of the original 35mm negative (color and black & white). This new restoration involved a complete overhaul of the digital work as well as a new 4K color grading, carried out by Alexandra Nou (Éclair Classics), supervised by director Claude Lelouch and Carol Oriot-Couraye (Les Films 13). Project manager: Karine Grebet (Éclair Classics).

The sound restoration was handled by L.E. Diapason, based on the original 35mm mono magnetic track.

Presented by Park Circus. This restoration was carried out from the original 35mm negative, scanned in 8K for exceptional image quality. Each frame was carefully restored to remove imperfections and ensure a flawless screening.

The film was then color graded in HDR, based on a period reference print to preserve its original look. The result offers a more precise image, with enhanced contrast and colors.
The original mono soundtrack was also restored from the best available sources, delivering a clear audio experience suited to modern theaters.

This version was restored in 2026 by the Cherry Towers laboratory (Madrid) from the original image and sound negatives, scanned in 4K. The entire process was carried out by Video Mercury Films, which also handled the color grading as well as the digital restoration of both image and sound.

Screening in the presence of the singer Jeannette – who will perform the iconic song Porque te vas from the soundtrack of the film – along with the director’s children, Antonio and Anne Saura.

The 4K digitization of the image and sound elements, as well as the film’s restoration and color grading, were carried out by L’Image Retrouvée, with the support of the CNC. This work was supervised by the teams at Les Films de Mon Oncle (Margaux Chalançon and Jérôme Deschamps) and at Studiocanal (Sophie Boyer and Jean-Pierre Boiget).

  • DRDO opens CBRN Field Training & Demonstration Centre in Delhi
Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) opened the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) field training and demonstration Centre at Burari plains in Delhi on May 06, 2026. Inaugurated by Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman, DRDO Dr Samir V Kamat, the centre aims to further enhance preparedness for radiological & nuclear exigencies.

The training and demonstration center will be a unique DRDO-CBRN-Centre of Excellence comprising various state-of-the-art facilities. These include dedicated radiological and nuclear test bed facility & heavy ion research facility, along with emergency medical response and real-time field response units.

The centre is part of upcoming CBRN Centre of Excellence under the Institute of Nuclear Medicine & Allied Sciences (INMAS) and dedicated to effective training of responders from Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Home Affairs, National Disaster Management Authority and various other agencies involved in CBRN exigencies preparedness and crisis response. Through training and workshops, INMAS will prepare the next generation of specialists to carry forward the work to the front-line as well as ensure the enrichment by introducing latest techniques & technologies.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Director General Soldier Support System Dr Upendra Kumar Singh; Director General (Production Coordination & Services Interaction) Dr (Smt) Chandrika Kaushik; Director General Resource & Management Dr Ravindra Singh and Corporate Directors along with other dignitaries and scientists.
