Housefull 5 released on June 6, 2025 - trollers and self-proclaimed pundits across the social media started writing obituaries about the franchise. These are the very people, these critics are the very set that propelled some failed film-makers in the changing scenario of late-2000's when studios were consolidating film-production and distribution very much on the lines of Hollywood - that sounded the death-knell of the Hindi Film Industry.
Why you ask?
Because, the studios with these Hollywood bred directors started to churn out films that appealed to western sensibilities. These studios spiralled star-prices out of bounds for the conventional producers of the Hindi Film Industry - so much so that - today if you don't have a major studio onboard you can't even think of a decent commercial release - be it cinemas or OTT's.
Coming back to Housefull 5, reading a lot of trolling, social media posts and of course reviews by so called 'critics' that films like Housefull 5 are the reason, why Hindi Film Industry is out. Get a reality check first of all.
Housefull 5 has infused life in cinemas - people that haven't been to cinemas since Pushpa 2 are back in cinemas - top that with organic collections of the film, no BOGO offer, no discounted rates and yet the collections are close to INR 90-91 crores in three-days; worldwide collections pegged at 125-130crores in three days.
This figure is not a record first-day figure, followed by a crash on the second day. This figure is a growth figure with each day of the weekend showing an 'up' trend - indicating, target audience is liking the film.
Is PR machine of a so-called 'superstar' overworking?
The context of the success of 'Housefull 5' exemplifies manifold when a so-called 'intellect film', Thug Life, with a supposed 'ace' actor Kamal Hassan becomes one of the biggest disasters ever to roll out of Indian Film Industry.
Since, few naysayers can't deny the facts about the figures, they are floating the budget propaganda.
So, here are facts about the budget of Housefull 5 clear and concise. The film is set in UK, UK gives about 53% rebates to productions; since Housefull franchise is set in UK, the rebate here is close to 60%-62%. Even if we agree to the grossly over-budgeted Rs.300crores budget about Rs.180crores is already recovered!
The trollers ought to know that half-knowledge is no knowledge - it is very easy to troll - but very hard to digest the fact that trolling alone can't undo the success of a film.
A tight slap across the face of this fraternity is the fact that Housefull 6 will soon be announced. Till then this frat can rest-in-peace!
