Pacific Rim takes a good haul of $9m in China

Pacific Rim, which had a not so heartening run in the US, continues to compensate it' producers with it's emphatic run at the international box-office.


The latest market it performed well is China. Reportedly, the projected opening day for Pacific Rim in China (Rmb 54.3m) set a new record for Warner Bros. Earlier the media reports say that Guillermo del Toro’s sci-fi epic had debuted on Wednesday (31) on an estimated 5,700 digital 3D screens, 117 digital 3D Imax screens and 22 China Giant Screen sites. Confirmed results from China Film are not expected until the close of business on Thursday. Reportedly, to date the film has grossed approximately $242m worldwide.

Pacific Rim took 70% market share of the top five at the Chinese box office, grossing almost three times as much as that of the number two film Fast & Furious 6 in its sixth day of release.

The new release grossed approximately 50% more than that of Man Of Steel on Jun 20.

As per reports, though there was speculation initially of a possible sequel; studio executives are yet to confirm such a possibility.
