December 2021, I heard a song Oo Antava Mawa..Oo Oo Antava and posted on my social media that the film, Pushpa, is a hit. When the film opened low and the weekend wasn't exactly fire, rather flower, my friends from the film-fraternity called that how my prediction has gone wrong.
Within a week, they got the answer; my predictions' record of being 99.99% right stayed intact!
Kissik was a big downer after Oo Antava Mawa; thankfully Pushpa 2 isn't.
I am yet to watch the film, as I am in Maldives judging a film-festival, but my friends tell me the crowds are going bonkers over the film.
As always, the film has few naysayers too; with few critics trashing the film.
Isn't it for these critics that gave four-star ratings to yawn-yarns of certain directors bankrolled heavily by studio-execs, the reason of the Hindi film-industry today. Unfortunately, very soon, the OTT space as well!
One very important thing Pushpa 2 proved is, the way south-Indian filmmakers have a much greater connect with the audiences.
While the top-5 opening days in India across formats are all held by south-Indian films; Pushpa 2, dubbed in Hindi, ironically, is the highest Opening Day for a Hindi film taking only Hindi format in account!
So much for Superstardom of Hindi Films' self-proclaimed kings and superstars.
