Ask anywhere in the world, where Bollywood is even scantily known, they would know two films for sure - Sholay and Awaara - such is the legacy that even 50 years and 70+ years down the line - audiences remember them!
Sholay re-releases tomorrow as The Final Cut - reportedly with the original ending, the chilling killing of Sachin and more!
Are the audiences excited?
Yes, says Tejpal from Bihar, he first watched Sholay as a 15-year teenager in a non-descript cinema in Bihar, today he has got the tickets of the biggest multiplex chain in India to watch his favorite film. He says, I watched Sholay 50 times in cinema when it released in 1975, it reached my village in 1978 - but still the shows were housefull. "I am going to watch my favorite actor Amitabh Bachchan and his buddy, Veeru played by late actor, Dharmendra".
Tashi, a cub-reporter with a leading national daily, that described Sholay as a "violent potpourri curry western" in its original review in 1975, says "Sholay holds a legacy, it is 'THE FILM' with the highest number of footfalls ever in India and probably, the world!"
While many films 70's and 80's films, still run in the interiors of India - Sholay is the only film that has re-released three times at the biggest multiplex chains across India, since 2000!
