Press Release - Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying

The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying (DAHD), under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, organized a One Health Communication Strategy Workshop in New Delhi under the Pandemic Fund-supported project titled “Animal Health Security Strengthening in India for Pandemic Preparedness and Response” on 20th June 2025. The workshop marked a significant step towards building a coordinated and impactful communication framework to support India’s efforts in strengthening animal health systems and pandemic preparedness through the One Health approach.

Bringing together stakeholders from government agencies, international organizations, academia, research institutions, and the media, the workshop served as a platform to initiate the development of a strategic, science-based, and people-centric communication roadmap. Discussions focused on raising public awareness of zoonotic diseases, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and biosecurity with particular emphasis on audience-specific messaging and grassroots engagement.

Animal Husbandry Commissioner (AHC) Dr. Abhijit Mitra, emphasized the importance of a clear and cohesive communication strategy in achieving the goals of the Pandemic Fund project. He highlighted that effective communication is not just an outreach tool, but a critical enabler of behavior change, inter-sectoral coordination, and risk mitigation. He stated, “We must use simple, locally understood language to ensure that messages truly reach and resonate with communities. Delivering the right message to the right audience at the right time is key to creating meaningful impact.”

Dr. Konda Chavva, Assistant FAO Representative in India, underscored communication as a core pillar of the One Health approach. “Communication is the critical bridge between knowledge and behaviour, between policy and practice. It is what ensures that the work we do translates into action and impact on the ground,” he said.

A key highlight of the workshop was a media panel discussion featuring senior editors and journalists from BBC News, ET Edge, and Down to Earth magazine. The session explored how the media can amplify One Health messaging, counter misinformation, and build public trust through transparent, science-informed storytelling. The workshop also emphasized the importance of the One Health Strategy Document, currently under development. This national framework will guide collaborative action across animal, human, and environmental health sectors, aiming to institutionalize a sustainable and resilient health security ecosystem in India. Participants engaged in technical sessions and group exercises on message design, risk communication, and cross-sector coordination.

India remains committed to advancing the One Health agenda by strengthening disease surveillance, enhancing frontline capacities, and promoting inclusive public engagement through strategic and coordinated communication.

By: Amit kumaR Agarwal

Not Just A Review Shorts - is review to the point to save you from reading long boring reviews!

The Plot
An uncelebrated coach is 'fined and punished' with coaching a differently-abled team, that he turns into 'winners'.

How is the film
The first half is slow, the second half is fine! The film can easily be cut by about 20-minutes.

Last word
If you are looking for a Lagaan, Rang De Basanti, Ghajini, 3-Idiots, Dangal or even Taare Zameen Par, kind of a high, you will be grossly disappointed. As a stand-alone film, the film is fine!

Cinema l India l Bikini - wear it, yes or no?

By: Amit kumaR Agarwal
with inputs by Aanya

YRF - one of the biggest film-producers in the world has two high-profile films coming within a span of a month - Saiyaara and War 2 - the social-media, memes are abuzz with the pictures of the lead actresses in micro-bikinis - while on one end of the spectrum is a debutant on the silver-screen, Aneet Padda; the other end of the spectrum sees a top actress, Kiara Advani donning a bikini.

An aspiring actress vent out her feelings on not getting roles with her post on IG, "All you need to do is wear a bikini to get roles".

It made the writers ponder, is wearing a bikini still a taboo in India?

The co-writer of the story, Aanya went checking with girls from colleges and theatre-circuit in Delhi-NCR.

Shubina, a student from DU and a first-time model said that she won't wear a bikini "even if one-million is offered to me. I come from a small place called Shahjahanpur in UP. I don't think my family will be comfortable with it".

On being prodded further, that what if she is offered a big role in a big movie, she said, "probably I will think, but it really depends on the film".

Aastha, a theatre enthusiast, working with various groups in Delhi said, "I have the figure, so I am all game to wear it for a film. Whether it is a studio film or an indie-film doesn't really matter".

Zainab, student of a film institute in Noida said, "see Kiara started her career doing goody-goody roles, it is only now, when she is established, she is going all glam. I have it clearly cut out; once I am established I will do glam roles".

Mihika, student in DU says, "I don't know what this hullabaloo is all about, may be it is the PR team out there, pepping-up the films. I mean look at all the top actresses, Deepika, Shraddha, Priyanka, they have all worn it. I feel we have to move with the times".

Zoya from Bangalore, interning with an MNC summed the issue very well, "more than 90% of the influencers are influencers because each alternate post of theirs is in a bikini. It's all too much noise. Let's accept it, bikini is a normal attire girls wear on a beach and there is nothing wrong about it".

A prominent distributor of films in Delhi-UP, Rakesh Jain gave the final lowdown, "while classes are not pulled in theatres by such tactics; masses do have an inclination to get pulled into theatres by such tactics - but at the end of the day, it is the content of the film that makes it a blockbuster. Though I agree, it does give any film those all important initial footfalls, particularly, if the film has newcomers in the lead".

A film historian, Siraj, said "YRF is not new to making their lead actresses don bikini - one of the first instances of a lead actress wearing a bikini in India was Sonam, way back in 1987, it became a sensation with all the top magazines of the time, carrying the pictures. The movie, Vijay, became a hot property".

Well, while War 2 is already being pipped as the next blockbuster, it will be interesting to see if Saiyaara becomes a success in these tough times that cinema is facing.

Press Release - Ministry of Commerce & Industry

The government has introduced pioneering reforms in the Special Economic Zones (SEZ) rules to address the specialized needs of semiconductor and electronics component manufacturing sectors. Since manufacturing in these sectors is highly capital intensive, import dependent and involve longer gestation periods before turning profitable, rule amendments have been carried out to promote pioneering investments and boost manufacturing in these high technology sectors.

After amendments in Rule 5 of SEZ Rules, 2006, an SEZ set up exclusively for the manufacturing of semiconductors or electronic components will require a minimum contiguous land area of only 10 hectares, reduced from the earlier requirement of 50 hectares. Further, amendment to Rule 7 of SEZ Rules, 2006, allows the Board of Approval for SEZs to relax the condition requiring SEZ land to be encumbrance-free in cases where it is mortgaged or leased to the Central or State Government or their authorized agencies.

The amended Rule 53 will allow the value of goods received and supplied on a free-of-cost basis to be included in Net Foreign Exchange (NFE) calculations and assessed using applicable customs valuation rules. Moreover, amendments have been made in Rule 18 of the SEZ Rules to allow SEZ units in semiconductor as well as electronics component manufacturing sector to also supply domestically into the Domestic Tariff area as well after payment of applicable duties.

The amendments will boost high-tech manufacturing in the country, spur growth of semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem and create high skilled jobs in the country.

These amendments have been notified by the Department of Commerce on 3rd June, 2025. Subsequently, the Board of Approval for SEZs has accorded approval to the proposals received from Micron Semiconductor Technology India Pvt Ltd (MSTI) and Hubballi Durable Goods Cluster Private Ltd (Aequs Group) for setting up of SEZs for manufacturing of semiconductors and electronic components respectively.

Micron will establish its SEZ facility in Sanand, Gujarat over an area of 37.64 Ha with an estimated investment of Rs. 13,000 crores, while Aequs will establish its SEZ in Dharwad, Karnataka over an area of 11.55 Ha to manufacture electronics components with an estimated investment of Rs. 100 crores.
