14th MAMI - 'Blancanieves' is the Closing Film

With the 14th Mumbai Film Festival or MAMI as it is popularly known as, presented by Reliance Entertainment and American Express all set to kick off with style; the Closing Film of this edition of the festival was recently announced. Blancanieves will conclude the week long festival. Blancanieves is a 2012 black-and-white silent Spanish drama directed by Spanish auteur Pablo Berger.

The film is Spain's official entry for the Best Foreign Language film at the 85th Academy Awards in 2013. The film premiered at the prestigious Toronto festival; it won the Special Jury Prize and an ex-aequo Best Actress "Silver Shell" Award for Macarena Garcia at the 2012 San Sebastian International Film Festival. MFF is the only the third film festival to showcase the film.

Having earned praise at the two international film festivals, Blancanieves is essentially a drama. Carmen (Macarena Garcia) is a beautiful young woman with a childhood tormented by her terrible stepmother, Encarna (Maribel Verdu). Running from her past, Carmen, undertakes an exciting journey accompanied by her new friends. the film is set in the south of Spain in the 20's, full of adventure, excitement and humor. 

This is one film not to be missed during MFF.
