African American Women in Cinema Announces
“The Politics of Black Women in Film” Panel and Educational Mini-Tour at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival.”
High-profile discussion and VIP reception at Pavillon AfroNova to center the voices, artistry, and leadership of Black women in global cinema.
CANNES, FRANCE — African American Women in Cinema (AAWIC) proudly announces its signature keynote panel, “The Politics of Black Women in Film,” taking place during the 2026 Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at Pavillon AfroNova in Cannes, France.
This timely and dynamic conversation will explore the intersections of culture, authorship, representation, and power in the global film industry while centering the voices and leadership of Black women shaping contemporary cinema and media.
The event marks the official launch of AAWIC’s educational mini-tour, which will continue with upcoming engagements in New York, Nashville, and Washington, D.C. The initiative is designed to elevate dialogue, expand visibility, and foster collaboration among filmmakers, executives, creatives, scholars, and cultural leaders worldwide.
Moderated by Emmy-nominated editor Princess A. Hairston, whose acclaimed work spans PBS, Netflix, Sundance, and major political and cultural campaigns, the panel will feature distinguished industry leaders including:
• Lamonia Brown — Entertainment executive and film festival strategist recognized for shaping major cultural film platforms and developing content ecosystems across television, festivals, and studio initiatives.
• Dr. A’Cire Newby — Award-winning filmmaker, media personality, and advocate whose multifaceted career spans radio, film production, television, and activism focused on women’s empowerment.
Together, the panelists will engage in thought-provoking dialogue examining both the challenges faced and the triumphs achieved by Black women across the international film landscape.
Following the discussion, guests will attend an exclusive VIP Reception designed to encourage networking, relationship-building, and future collaborations among filmmakers, producers, executives, media professionals, and cultural influencers attending the Cannes Film Festival.
