After ages, probably after Sridevi, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, became the first Pan-India superstar when she grooved to Oo Antava Oo Oo Antava in the blockbuster Pushpa. However, very recently she was seen in the avatar of an activist, when she put her foot firmly down on the much discussed pay-parity for actresses across the global film-industry.
It may be recalled, Samantha had earlier launched her production house called Tralala Moving Pictures in December 2023, to tell stories that are meaningful, authentic and universal. Very recently, Samantha spoke on the highly debated topic of pay disparity between male actors and female actors not only in India, but worldwide.
While the trade-experts have maintained that pay is directly proportional to the kind of money a film makes and point out, some actresses take home very high packages, much more than actors who are less saleable - the debate continues unabated.
Now, Samantha who is producing a film has ensured that her production has pay parity for everyone who worked on her first production, tentatively titled Bangaram, under the banner of Tralala Moving Pictures. Samantha, who also plays the lead in Bangaram, is perhaps the first Indian star to ensure pay parity on her film-production.
