Epics are best left untouched.
Bahubali The Beginning changed the way Indians looked at South-Indian cinema. The fact that south-Indian films suddenly found an audience in north-India post-2015 was all thanks to one film Bahubali The Beginning.
Post BTB, south Indian films like Bahubali The Conclusion, KGF, Pushpa, KGF 2, Kalki 2898 AD, Pushpa 2 and Kantara 2 did blockbuster business; but none could match the genius of Bahubali The Beginning.
Bahubali The Beginning was a masterclass in cinema; way narrative could be accentuated by cinematography, background music and editing. Each vital character was introduced in one scene and that set the audiences investing emotionally in each character, rooting for the protagonists, wanting the end of antagonists.
It will take ages before such a perfect film rolls out from the Indian film industry!
After seeing Bahubali The Epic, I feel, even SS Rajamouli will take time to come up with something extra-ordinary.
Why?
Because the cut isn't seamless, the connecting scenes are missing and it seems just an assembly of few of the iconic scenes from Bahubali The Beginning and the conclusion.
The way characters of Katappa and Devsena were introduced in Bahubali The Beginning struck a very strong emotional chord with the audiences. Here if you haven't seen Bahubali earlier Katappa is just reduced to an extra!
The iconic Devsena rescue seen is reduced to just another action scene.
The emotional poetry of the bond between Bahubali and Katappa isn't developed.
Frankly, the cut makes you wonder, why the 'Bahubali' epic was reduced to this mess called Bahubali The Epic.
Watch 'Bahubali The Beginning' again, once you are left feeling sore by this bore of an epic!
