- Jharkhand Assembly elections Phase 1: Voter turnout of 29% recorded in 43 seats till 11am
Jharkhand Assembly elections on Wednesday saw voter turnout of 29.31 percent during the first four hours of polling in 43 assembly constituencies in Jharkhand where voting is underway in the first phase. As per the officials, Khunti district recorded the highest voter turnout at 34.12 per cent, followed by 33.86 per cent in Gumla, 33.44 per cent in Lohardaga and 33.18 per cent in Simdega.
Over 15,000 polling stations have been set up for the first phase of voting, with 12,716 booths in rural areas and 2,628 in urban zones. Out of the state’s 26 million registered voters, 13.7 million will vote in the first phase of the Assembly elections. A total of 683 candidates — 609 men, 73 women, and one from the third gender — are competing for the 43 seats.
It may be noted that the current Jharkhand Assembly consists of 74 members, with the ruling JMM-led alliance holding 44 seats.
