National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore, who have been stranded on the International Space Station (ISS) for more than nine months, have begun their journey back to Earth.

The astronauts stranded in the space since 2024 are now aboard a SpaceX capsule, with the first leg of the trip - the undocking from ISS - taking place on Tuesday.

Reportedly, a SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule carrying Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams undocks from the ISS to begin a journey to return to Earth on March 18, 2025.

Before leaving the station, Williams and Wilmore posed for a final photograph in space, which has been their home since last year, June 2024 to be precise.
