The Indian sugar industry is the backbone of the Indian economy; while there might be arguments over this statement - there is an absolute consensus when the who's who of the UP Sugar Industry or for that matter South-Asian sugar industry aver that the sugar industry has taken an unprecedented positive upturn with the efforts of UP Sugar Mills Association (UPSMA) heralded by the unrelenting efforts and work of, Secretary General, Deepak Guptara.
A much revered name in the sugar industry, Guptara started his career with Dhampur Sugar where he was instrumental in introducing the concept of packaged sugar and packaged jaggery. From Dhampur Sugar he moved on to UPSMA and since then he has steered the various sugar mills in Uttar Pradesh to new heights of success.
Feted with ‘Excellence Award 2023’ for contribution to sugar sector, Deepak Guptara is one of India’s most respected sugar sector leaders, recognized for his contribution towards development and modernisation of the sugar industry, and the various allied sectors.
A post graduate in management from IIM, Guptara has put his learnings to effective use at UPSMA, which is the industry interface of India’s largest sugarcane, sugar and ethanol producing state, that is Uttar Pradesh.
Working tirelessly on the CM of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath's vision of turning the state into Uttam Pradesh he strikes a perfect balance between the sugar industry and the farmers with regular interactive sessions and engaging workshops.
In his quest for excellence and boosting the business - he started organizing international conferences with much success. Very soon leaders of other industries followed the model devised by Guptara; thus working towards Prime Minister, Narendra Modi's vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
A life member of the alumni association of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad, Guptara has been lauded with many awards during his three-decade illustrious career.
A visionary in the industry, he is often invited for expert-lectures at various universities and colleges to illuminate the future generation of India with innovative ideas.
Guptara attributes his success to his parents, whom he says "instilled the core values from the ancient Indian texts like Ramayan and Bhagvad Geeta to guide me through the thick and thin of life".
